I hope this finds you and yours safe and well in these days of pandemic. As we have seen up close and terrifyingly personal, elections have tremendous consequences. We show who we truly are when stress hits us most deeply. Democrats are showing their focus is on the people of this state. Our elected leaders fight tirelessly to hold Governor Stitt accountable to science and ethical government. The governor is attempting to thwart the will of the people by pushing Medicaid block grant programs. We have the chance to support 802 on June 30 and bring real help to the most vulnerable Oklahomans with a real expansion of Medicaid.
There have been small pandemic related victories in Oklahoma County. As of the last report I saw, due to the work of the Jail Trust, community activists and elected officials, the Oklahoma County jail census is at an historic low and no cases of covid-19.
Campaigns are retooling for digital and there are endless trainings online from Joe Biden, Kendra Horn, ODP, NDTC, and others to teach us how to text and call with authenticity.
As for OCDP, we have been reaching out to encourage Vote By Mail since late January. On our behalf, David Glover launched a text campaign to encourage lapsed absentee voters to sign up again. It turns out to be even more important now that the safety of elections may be an issue in the age of Covid 19. This effort continues as volunteers began calling precincts this week to remind voters to check their voter registration online and sign up to vote by mail.
